Tuesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show brought an interesting spin to the 90s sitcom that fans grew up with worldwide, Boy Meets World. Samuel L. Jackson mastered a mysterious and dramatic, slam poetry monologue about the narrative between Cory, Topanga, Mr, Feeny and all the beloved characters.
Jackson, who is submerged in the darkness, puffs on his e-cigarette curls his eyebrow and starts to give his monologue—with the help and jazzy stylings of the house band, The Roots, of course.
As seen in the video, the monologue begins in the most straight-forward and literal way possible "Boy. Meets. World. Boy – greets world. 'Hello, world! I'm Cory Matthews: short and average, head full of curls.'"
He hilariously pokes fun and depicts the relationship between best friends, Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter as "two boys who lack both brains and brawn." He continues to highlight the romantic antics between life-long lovers, Cory and Topanga. "A story old as time." "Topanga, Topanga, Topanga, beats the heart of Cory," Jackson says while punching his own chest with a tightly gripped fist, detailing their excursion "from sandbox to Pennbrook College," as reported by Rolling Stone
Jackson also draws on Topanga’s name choice by describing her as "daughter of hippies, name of a gypsy.”
The slam poem would not be considered a good one without some life changing words from a teacher you’ve had for a number of years straight, "The knowledge they gained came not from a witch or a genie," Jackson flows, "but from a teacher, a neighbor, a mentor, a savior – a man named Mr. Feeny."
Samuel L. Jackson ends his wildly hilarious slam poem with an emotional twist "Boy Meets World. Boy meets girl," he says toward the end. "Boy meets wife. Boy meets life."
