Scorpions drummer James Kottak was arrested in Dubai for insulting Islam, according to reports in the United Arab Emirates.
Kottak was sentenced to one month in prison on Tuesday after allegedly acting indecently at the Dubai International Airport, reports The Associated Press. He is accused of flipping his middle finger, insulting Islam and being drunk while moving through the airport. Local reports say he was there on April 3, during a trip from Russia to the U.K.
The Khaleej Times reports that Kottak, 51, denied the charges in court. He only admitted to drinking without carrying an I.D. and was fined for that charge.
Kottak’s lawyer claims that passengers at the airport gave investigators a story that contradicts what officials said. He will be allowed to appeal the verdict.
Scorpions have yet to issue a statement. The group is best known for their 1980s hits, including “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” “Wind of Change” and “No One Like You.” They were set to perform at the Formula One Grand Prix.
