The quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks Russell Wilson is filing for divorce from his wife Ashton Meem as announced by a statement released by the team this past Wednesday. The couple had been married for two years.
According to The Huffington Post, Wilson made this difficult announcement through a statement released by the team in which he revealed that this has been a difficult time for him and this was not an easy decision to make. He also hopes that everyone will understand what he is going through and keep him in their prayers and to respect his privacy during this time.
This is a personal matter that will hopefully stay that way as the couple begins the divorce process. They first met in Virginia where they both attended the same high school and Meem moved to be with Wilson when he was attending college at N.C. State. Wilson started his college career at N.C. State before he transferred to Wisconsin to finish his collegiate career.
Seattle PI reports that Meem was always very good about traveling with Wilson to all of the events held by the Seahawks. Wilson was drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft and has lead the Seahawks to 28 regular-season and playoff victories.
Wilson is coming off his most successful season so far in the NFL, which ended with a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII this past February. The Seattle Seahawks will open their 2014 NFL season on September 4 when they will host the Green Bay Packers.
