Round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs have been a back and fourth struggle for the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers—neither team is ready to throw in the towel. The Philadelphia Flyers tied round one once more with their game 4, 2-1 win at home.
After a huge penalty kill in game one, Dom Moore gave the Rangers an early lead with his wrap-around, first goal of the series at 4:38 in the first period.
The Rangers were up 7-2 in shots until Matt Read tied the game up at 8:55.
Power Plays weren’t too kind to the Rangers last night as they missed personal opportunities and gave some away to the opposing team.
"Our power play needs to be better. We got some good looks, but at this time in the year, you need more than good looks. You've got to get the job done," said Rangers coach, Alain Vgneault, according to NHL.com
In the second period Voracek took the lead for the Flyers with a power play goal. The deflection shot at 7:22 gave the two teams their final score of the night.
The Rangers placed 15 in the NHL power play rankings in the regular season.
Philadelphia finally welcomed back their star goalie. Steve Mason who suffered an upper body injury on April 12th, played an impressive game for his first time back on the ice.
The blueshirts had a 4-on-3 advantage for 1:12 in the second period, after Matt Read hooked Ryan McDonagh and only had one shot on goal. Opportunity knocked for the Rangers, they just didn’t answer the door.
“You don’t want to go into (the Garden) down 3-1 in a series and have to win in that building,” Mason said, reports NY Daily News “So for us it was definitely a must-win.”
Game 5 will take place at Madison Square Garden at noon—at this rate, it’s anybody’s game.
