The Simpsons honored David Letterman on Sunday night following his retirement news this past week. The show featured the Simpson clan at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

The family barely made it, getting stuck in traffic and having two security officials stop them on the way. When they finally rushed in, Letterman said, "That's it? We flew you in and put you up for that? I think we're done here.”

Daily News notes Letterman then directs the audience to Late Show’s Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra, who starts up with The Simpsons theme song.

"We'll miss you, Dave,” a message reads on a black screen.

Letterman just announced his retirement on Thursday on his show, saying he will bow out after 31 years on air sometime next year. He started hosting NBC’s Late Night in 1982 and won five Emmys during the 11-year run. He joined CBS when Jay Leno chosen to replace Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show .
