Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman has decided to retire after 23 seasons.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune has reported that Adelman announced his retirement on Monday.
The move does not come as a shock to anyone. After a disastrous season, the team is ready to move on and the 67-year-old coach would like to spend more time with his wife who is ill.
In addition to the Timberwolves, Adelman has coached several teams throughout his lengthy career including the Portland Trail Blazers, the Chicago Bulls, the Golden State Warriors, the Sacramento Kings and the Houston Rockets.
He had a record of 97-133 during his three seasons in Minnesota and 1,042-749 record overall, which as ESPN noted, ranks eighth on the NBA's career list.
Adelman was set to make $6 million next season.
The Tribune also stated that two college coaches the Timberwolves would like talk to as a possible replacement are Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg. However, neither are likely to leave their current gigs.
