He is famous for his intellectual depth and ability to drastically change his own musical style. Bowie has been a major figure in the world of music for over four decades, earning him the nickname of “chameleon”. He was at his musical peak in the 1970’s, a time in which he created his alter ego, “Ziggy Stardust” and released his album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Bowie played a leading role in the Glam music eruption and success, and later created his own sound, which he characterized as “plastic soul”. Rolling Stone has listed him as 39th on their list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and 23rd on their list of the best singers of all time.
