Best known as the leader of South Korean group Big Bang, GDragon is a musical powerhouse to be reckoned with.
Born Kwon Ji Yong in Seoul, South Korea, GDragon began his career at the age of 5, but it wasn’t until he participated on an album called Flex when he was 13 that his career truly took off. When Flex came out, GDragon became the youngest rapper in South Korea, not only lending his voice to the music, but also penning his own lyrics.
GDragon’s talent caught the attention of Sean of the group Jinusean, who was signed to YG Entertainment, and it wasn’t long before GDragon was signed to the powerhouse record company.
He chose the stage name GDragon because it is a reflection of his own name. Ji sounds like "G" and Yong means "Dragon" in Korean.
With Big Bang, GDragon debuted in 2006, writing and contributing to many of the group’s hits. It wasn’t until 2009 that he released his highly anticipated first solo album.
Not only is GDragon known for his musical talents, he has become something of a fashion and style icon. He frequently attends fashion shows and sparked attention at Paris Fashion Week 2013 with Big Bang bandmate, Taeyang.
GDragon is also known for his skill as a lyricist. In 2013, GDragon was noted to be the fifth-highest paid songwriter in Korea and the highest paid performing songwriter, according to KpopStarz. He was also the youngest on the list.
With the release of his second album in 2013, GDragon garnered international attention. He has since performed with Skrillex and the rumor mill is abuzz with talk of who he might team with next.
With the countless hits he’s produced, it’s time to take a look back at the best music videos of his solo career.
