Grey’s Anatomy episode “Go It Alone” represents a big turning point for many of the surgeons at the hospital. This season has showed the surgeons without any major tragedies – things have been on the up and up, and I’ve said before that there’s no way that happiness can last. This week showed the beginnings of what could be some serious heart-wrenching moments. Right now, the hospital is home to the heart-failure family and the boy in the bubble, and things could go south for any one of them. In the surgeon’s lives, many of them seem to be at a crossroads. Who will scale back on work to take care of the family, Meredith or Derek? Which job will Alex pick, one at Sloan-Grey or one at a private practice with Dr. Butthole? Will April and Jackson move beyond their theological differences? And most importantly – what will happen to Cristina Yang? Tensions are mounting and that can only mean one thing in the Grey’s Anatomy universe – an epic season finale is on its way.
We present to you our top 10 moments from “Go It Alone." Be sure to check out our Grey’s Anatomy coverage, including recaps and other top 10 lists, here !

10. Alex, Meredith, and Cristina reunite
Out of the original five interns we met in season one, only these three remain. It was cute to see them working together in an OR, pulling an all-nighter like they used to do. Bittersweet, because viewers know that these moments are quickly coming to a close as Cristina is set to leave the show at the end of the season.

9. Arizona and Callie baby talk
Things remain upbeat in the house of Callie and Arizona this week as they discuss who will carry their new baby to term. They can’t decide on their own, so they go back to that old favorite of flipping a coin. We don’t get to see the outcome of the coin toss because Arizona quickly decides she doesn’t want to get pregnant, but at least the two aren’t fighting. They even share a tender moment when they remember parenting Sophia with Mark Sloan. Let’s hope it lasts.

8. Leah’s miracle
During a teaching surgery with Derek, Leah really messed up by clamping something she wasn’t supposed to. She could have caused brain damage. She could have killed the patient. Luckily, Leah is saved from that guilt when the patient wakes up after surgery, tired but without any bad complications. Derek reminds her to hold on to that feeling of “what could have happened” because it will make her a better surgeon. We’re just glad the patient survived.

7. Cristina hangs out with the heart kids
Those heart failure kids just can’t catch a break. Now all three of them are on the heart transplant list, and Cristina spent a little time bonding with them before flying off to her big award ceremony. The gang hung out by playing Jenga and listening to Cristina recite her winning speech. Owen stopped by for a minute, and it was a relief to see him hold back on the “I want kids” talk that he usually does whenever he sees Cristina interacting with a child. Good call, Owen.

6. Paging Dr. Ben?
Poor Ben had to work a 30-hour shift and then got stuck in Derek’s late night teaching moment. It’s no wonder the poor resident fell asleep standing up, but it was funny watching him realize that he had slept through the night. It would be hard for anyone to pull a double all-nighter, Ben. Try not to worry about it.

5. HIV Therapy for Bubble Boy
Bubble boy is still in the hospital thanks to his faulty immune system, but there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for him when Bailey modifies an HIV virus to help him out. The experiment is still in the early stages, but hopefully we’ll get to see the bubble boy set free by the end of the season.

4. Callie and Arizona take in April
A great display of friendship came this week when Callie and Arizona didn’t hesitate to open their home to April, who has been fighting with Jackson over the raising of their hypothetical children. Hopefully the two newlyweds will be able to work it out, but it was very sweet to see someone taking care of April when she’s down. Aside from Jackson, the series doesn’t really show her having any close friends.

3. Jo & Alex
These two are just so sweet together. They both have crazy busy schedules, especially with Alex working two full-time jobs, but they still find moments to be together. It was too cute how Jo helped Alex with his tie, and then kissed him awake after he fell asleep. I predict a real engagement will be happening before the end of the season.

2. Meredith and Owen show up
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Meredith is the ultimate friend you want in your corner. Cristina called her up, clearly panicking about being on her own at the awards ceremony, only to walk into the main room to see Meredith and Owen already sitting at the table. Cristina likes to pretend she can go at it alone, but everyone needs a little support from their friends. It was great to see she wasn’t alone, especially when we got to the number one moment of the episode…
[new page= Harper Avery]
1. Cristina doesn’t win?
In the top shocking moment of the episode, the camera zooms in on Cristina’s face when it’s revealed that she didn’t win the Harper Avery award. She looks crushed. Everyone watching the show probably looked crushed in that moment as well – after all that, she doesn’t even win? It raises so many questions on where Cristina will go from here. As someone who loves to win, how will she handle this loss?
