Grey’s Anatomy brought the drama with the fire of a thousand viral infections in last week’s episode “You Be Illin’”. Sloan Grey Memorial was overrun with patients suffering from a flu-like sickness that spread to the staff of the hospital, forcing everyone to function with far fewer doctors than they’re used to. The episode raised new questions about the future of everyone’s favorite doctors. As the tenth season of Grey’s draws to a close, careers hang in the balance. Who will return for the next season, and who will move to other hospitals. We got a hint about Alex Karev’s possible move as he considered leaving the busy hospital life for a private practice. Fans already know that Cristina Yang, Leah Murphy, and Shane Ross will not be back for the next season, but it’s still up in the air as to how they will depart. Hopefully with as few deaths as possible!

We present to you our top ten moments from “You Be Illin’”. Be sure to check out our Grey’s Anatomy coverage, including recaps and other top ten lists, here !

10. Resident War

The residents are once again involved in an all-out war as they fight to stay healthy. Whoever goes home first has to be the “swap monkey” for the other residents. There’s no competition like a medical competition, and it’s a theme that Grey’s Anatomy does with ease.

[new page= Student Loans]
9. Alex and the student loans

Every college student can sympathize when Alex is slapped by his student loans, which are about to come out of deferment. Alex has been tossing his loan statements in the trash (out of sight, out of mind), but luckily Jo has enough foresight to snatch his statements away from him and figure out exactly how much he owes. Right now, he’s looking at a 20 year payment plan. Could his loans impact his decision to stay at Sloan Grey? It certainly seems that way.

[new page= Butt]
8. Paging Dr. Butthole
Admit it, you laughed when they introduced this week’s visiting doctor as “the butthole guy”. He played crazy music during his surgery and partakes in a little Wii Golf during his downtime. His cushy office and big paycheck are definitely a different side to the doctor’s life, and one that we don’t get to see very often.

[new page=Miranda]
7. Miranda Bailey talks about sick men

No one speaks more truth than Doctor Bailey, and this week she didn’t disappoint with her hilarious speech on how men behave when their sick. She broke it down into two different categories: those that want to be babied, and those that want to be left alone. Her husband? Definitely wants the nurse’s touch.

[new page= Hippie]
6. The hippie patient

When the creepy smiling man waved at Jo from his hospital bed, we weren’t sure what to think. Its revealed that his muscles have frozen thanks to an infection caused by his huge arm cut, which he didn’t get treated for because he thinks hospitals are the absolute worst. He’s every anti-vaccine, anti-aspirin, organic-berry-loving friend you have rolled into one.

[new page= Derek]
5. Derek and baby audience

The camera zooms in on Derek reciting an impressive speech, and pans back out to reveal that he’s talking to his infant son, preparing for his big speech later that day. It’s cute to see Derek in daddy-mode and incredibly nervous for his important moment.

[new page= Bubble]
4. The boy in the bubble

The standout patient this week was the young teen suffering from a crazy infection, while also battling a nonexistent immune system. At first, he pushes his parents away, wanting to be a grownup and handle it on his own. Things go from bad to worse as he’s moved into a private room that his parents have to scrub up to get into, and then he’s put into complete isolation. Our last shot of him is his tear-streaked face as he begs to be able to touch his parents, who stand on the other side of his protective bubble. Poor kid.

[new page= Jo]
3. Jo and Ortho?

Could the brilliant Jo be heading into ortho surgery? It definitely looks that way after her moment of peace while repairing a man’s broken arm. For someone as prone to violent outbursts as Jo, it’s cool to see her finding some inner peace while at her work. Plus, it’s fun to watch the residents begin to pick their specialties – remember when it was Meredith and Alex and the gang trying to figure out what to concentrate in?

[new page= Virus]
2. Viral theme

The theme of this week’s episode was one of the best parts – a sweeping viral infection that leaves the hospital short on staff and heightens the danger for the patients. Glad to see that no surgeons got put into quarantine or died a horrific death, but the overall “sickness is catching” theme of the episode added plenty of drama to the storyline.

1. Meredith does Derek's speech

Meredith once again proves she’s the number one girl you want in your corner. When Derek gets hopelessly ill and can’t perform his important speech for very important people, Meredith steps up to the plate and delivers a speech of her own, with her classic humor and intelligence. She ends up winning the entire room over, and Derek couldn’t be more proud.
