A public relations nightmare is probably an understatement. The social media campaign “#myNYPD” has turned into one of the worst ideas…ever. The New York Police Department tweeted on Tuesday asking if they had a photo with a member of the NYPD, and to use the hashtag, where the best would be posted on their Facebook page. There are much fewer photos of people smiling and taking selfies with New York’s finest than anticipated, resulting in the hashtag being used to show photos of police violence and brutality.
We take a look at the Top 10 #myNYPD photos, which unfortunately are smeared with negativity and have caused outrage, but also the harsher photos, not surprisingly, have popped up from accounts owned run by protesting groups such as Occupy Wall Street. Smartly, the New York Police Department have pretty much gone dark, not saying a word about the photos and news articles that have been posted. Probably the smartest thing they have done in the last 24 hours.

While yes, most of the photos to follow are awful, we should at least squeeze one in here for the actual intended purpose of the hashtag. JP Quinn had the right idea but unfortunately in the digital age the horrific usually outweighs the positive.

9. Occupy Wall Street (@OccupyWallStNYC)
A few of the following photos came from Occupy Wall Street’s Twitter page. Definitely not the harshest, but it depicts a policeman as being unstable and easy to set off.

Not all of them are pictures of brutality, there are some statistics of reality. Another from Occupy Wall Street gives the harsh information of people being killed more by the NYPD than Iraqi insurgents.

6. Cocky McSwagsalot (@MoreAndAgain)
The photo of a female protestor being carted off by a few police officers is pretty frightening and Cocky McSwagsalot definitely had a well done satiric caption, definitely better than other captions with the same picture, many suggesting sexual assault.
If you can't walk, don't worry, the NYPD will carry you. How helpful! #myNYPD pic.twitter.com/XMLDXTAe3i

This post comes from an account on a documentary of a 16 year old boy gunned down by the New York City Police, which tweeted out this posting along with retweeting several others.

Another witty caption from Cocky, suggesting the NYPD helps out with hair detangling as well as helping you out of a crowded area.
The #NYPD will also help you de-tangle your hair. #myNYPD pic.twitter.com/nrngQ1bOWv

3. Copwatch (@Copwatch)
Although a satirical comic, this one is probably one of the most damaging, depicting the NYPD as complete racists against African Americans, even suggesting African American police officers have this mode of thinking as well.

2. Occupy Wall Street (@OccupyWallStNYC)
It’s more about the caption than the picture really. Although it is a gripping picture from the Associated Press, the actual context of what is going on is pretty debatable.

Looking at anyone being beaten for waving the flag is pretty awful, but when it is an American that is depicted as brutalizing another American waving the flag, it is just unreasonable.
