Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper hurt his hand Friday when he slid head-first into third base. This slide caused Harper to have a sprained left thumb, which will force him to make a trip to the 15-day disabled list. Harper's move to the disabled list is retroactive to Saturday.
Harper hit a bases-loaded triple on this play as reported by USA Today. Harper hit 2-for-2 that night with a career-high four runs batted in. This raised his batting average to .289, but he still only has one home run on the season.
Catcher Wilson Ramos and third baseman are also on the disabled list for the Nationals with hand injuries.
Starting pitcher Doug Fister and reserve outfielder Scott Hairston are also on the disabled list with respective back and side injuries.
With Harper out, Nate McLouth will take over in left field, according to CBS Sports. Steven Souza will be called up from Triple-A to fill Harper's spot on the roster.
