ABC has remained busy into Friday. The alphabet network announced that Dancing with the Stars has unsurprisingly been renewed for another season. Sitcom The Middle has also been picked up for a sixth season.
DWTS will be returning for a 19th season. The show, hosted by Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, is down to just one night a week on Mondays and provides the network with an anchor on that night each season. The show just got a new showrunner, Rob Wade, so it was widely expected to be renewed, even with lower ratings.
The Middle stars Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn as parents in small-town Indiana. The show currently airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. and has also been a steady performer for the network in that timeslot.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that ABC did cancel The Neighbors after two seasons. The show had moved to Fridays, where it failed to draw as many viewers as Last Man Standing or Shark Tank. Showrunner Dan Fogelman has a new project at ABC and actor Toks Olagundoye had a role in the NBC pilot Feed Me.
ABC had a busy night on Thursday and did cancel Trophy Wife and Mixology. Modern Family and The Goldbergs were renewed.
