San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis is looking for a new contract as the team begins voluntary workouts, according to several reports.

The veteran tight end, who has two years remaining on his current contract, has opted to skip the voluntary offseason workouts while trying to secure a new deal, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported. His current contract is a six-year $42.7 million deal, which he signed in 2010, NFL.com notes.

By sitting out of the OTAs, Davis will lose about $200,000 and could possibly be hit with fines by the 49ers if he continues to sit out when mandatory minicamp begins. Head coach Jim Harbaugh didn't seem too fazed as he noted the OTAS are voluntary.

The 30-year-old veteran is joined on the sideline by guard Alex Boone, who also wants a new deal with two years left in his current contract. Davis is set to earn $5.1 million for the upcoming season.

According to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, who first learned of Davis' desire for a new contract, neither the eight-year tight end nor his agent offered a comment on the situation.
