While NBC, Fox and The CW have mined the DC Comics universe, Disney’s ABC is working on bringing the Marvel world to television. The network and Marvel Studios announced late Thursday that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been given a second season.
The studio also confirmed that Agent Carter has been picked up for a full season. The show is based on the character played by Hayley Atwell, who was introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger as Cap’s love interest.
Agent Carter isn’t a surprise. The project has been in the works since September 2013, shortly before the full Agent Carter short film debuted on the Iron-Man 3 Blu-ray and DVD. In January, it was confirmed that Atwell will reprise the role for the series.
ABC Entertainment Paul Lee told reporters at the Television Critics Association Press Tour that he was excited for the project and that the “script is great.” It was written by Captain America: The Winter Soldier writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have been tapped as showrunners.
Agent Carter will focus on the title character's adventures after Cap is frozen. It is set during the 1940s.
