Indiana Pacers center Andrew Bynum will be out for the rest of the playoffs due to knee problems. The team also announced on Wednesday that Bynum won’t be with the team any longer.
This isn’t the first time that Bynum has had problems with his knee. He missed the 2012-13 season due to knee problems. In 24 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers this season Bynum averaged 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds, according to Sports Network. He was traded to the Chicago Bulls, but the Bulls got rid of him in a salary-saving move. The Pacers signed Bynum on February 1.
"We want to thank Andrew and our medical staff for trying to get the issues with his knee resolved," Pacers president Larry Bird said. "We wish him the best in the future."
The Pacers had hoped that Bynum could add depth behind center Roy Hibbert. However Bynum ended up playing in just two games for the Pacers. He averaged 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in those two games, according to USA Today. He went on the inactive list due to knee soreness after the game on March 15.
Bynum could have trouble finding a team to play for next season because of his ongoing knee problems. The Washington Wizards lead the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Pacers 1-0. Game 2 of the series is Wednesday night.
