The Milwaukee Brewers have placed outfielder Ryan Braun on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.
According to ESPN, the team made the decision on Saturday. The move was expected and made retroactive to April 27.
The 30-year-old is one of the Brewers best players and off to a tremendous start batting .318 with six homers in 22 games this season, CBS Sports notes.
Milwaukee fans are hoping that he is back in the lineup by May 12. In the meantime, the team reinstated outfielder Logan Schafer to fill in during his absence.
Fans of other teams know Braun’s name for reasons other than his play on the field.
After the right fielder vehemently denied using performance enhancing drugs and disputed a positive test, he was ultimately suspended by MLB last year for the remaining 65 games. At that point, he had no choice but to admit his involvement with the Biogenesis clinic. In a statement he said:
"I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions."
