The battle over ailing radio personality Casey Kasem continued this week, with his daughter, Kerri, receiving more power to determine her father’s health care. Kasem’s wife, Jean, was served with the court orders on Friday.
On Wednesday, NBC Los Angeles reported that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy issued a court order directed to Jean, requiring her to turn in her 82-year-old husband’s passport and to relinquish her power to determine his treatment. Murphy also ordered her to allow doctors and Kerri to see him.
KING5 in Washington state, where Kasem and Jean are currently staying with a family friend, reported Friday that JEan was served the court orders on Friday from California.
“Casey Kasem lacks the capacity to give informed consent to any form of medical treatment because he is unable to respond knowingly and intelligently regarding medical treatment,” the order reads in part.
The order gives Kerri, Kasem’s daughter from a previous marriage, “exclusive authority” over deciding Kasem’s health care.
The California court order came from a civil court, which means that Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office cannot forcibly remove Kasem from Jean’s home unless Washington Superior Court gives them the authority to do so.
Kasen, who hosted Top 40 and voiced Shaggy on Scooby-Doo, is in poor health and Kerri has said that he is suffering from a form of dementia.
