Singer Cher and rapper Busta Rhymes are celebrating their birthdays today.

Cher, 68

Actress and Singer Cher turns 68 today. Cher rose to fame in 1965 as part of the husband–wife duo Sonny & Cher. From 1965, she had established herself as a solo artist with successful singles such as "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves", "Half-Breed", and "Dark Lady". In the 1970s, Cher was known as a television personality with her shows The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and Cher.

Cher made her Broadway debut in the early 1980s, and starred in the film Silkwood, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 1983. She went on to star in Mask, The Witches of Eastwick, and Moonstruck, the latter earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1988. She made her directorial debut in the 1996 film If These Walls Could Talk.

Cher had many platinum selling albums as well as successful singles such as "I Found Someone" and "If I Could Turn Back Time". In 1998, her song "Believe", which features the pioneering use of Auto-Tune, marked her transition to dance music. Her 2002–2005 Living Proof: The Farewell Tour became the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist.

Cher's returned to film in Burlesque in 2010. Her latest studio album Closer to the Truth was released in 2013, and became her highest-charting solo album in the US to date.

Cher has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. She has sold more than 100 million solo albums and over 40 million records as Sonny & Cher worldwide. She is the only artist to date to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in each of the past six decades.

Busta Rhymes, 42

Rapper, producer and actor Busta Rhymes turns 42 today. Born Trevor Tahiem Smith, Jr., Busta Rhymes was known for his wild style and fashion, and today is best known for his intricate rapping technique, which involves rapping at a fast rate. Rhymes released his debut album, The Coming in 1996, and it featured the hit ""Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check." His second album, When Disaster Strikes, brought Rhymes newfound fame, and featured the hits "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" and "Fire It Up."

In 1998, Busta Rhymes released E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event): The Final World Front. Its lead single "Gimme Some More" reached No. 6 on the UK charts, and his second single "What's It Gonna Be" featuring Janet Jackson, reached the top 11 in the US and the UK.

Busta Rhymes went on to release the albums Anarchy (2000), Genesis (2001), It Ain't Safe No More... (2002), The Big Bang (2006), Back on My B.S. (2009) and Year of the Dragon (2010).

Busta Rhymes has appeared in the films Shaft, The Rugrats Movie, Finding Forrester, Halloween: Resurrection and Higher Learning. He also made appearances on many television shows including Cosby, The Boondocks, Space Ghost Coast To Coast, The Wayans Bros., and The Steve Harvey Show.

Busta Rhymes recently collaborated with Nicki Minaj, Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Q-Tip and more for his latest album, E.L.E.2 (Extinction Level Event 2), set to release July 4.
