Singer Lenny Kravitz and actress Helena Bonham Carter are celebrating their birthdays today.

Lenny Kravitz, 50

Singer-Songwriter, record producer, and actor Lenny Kravitz turns 50 today. Failing to sign with a record label, Kravitz recorded his album on his own. With the help of recording engineer Henry Hirsch, Kravitz released his debut album, Let Love Rule, in 1989. Kravitz produced Madonna's "Justify My Love," in 1990.

Kravitz's second album, Mama Said, reached the Top 40, and was dedicated to his ex wife, Lisa Bonet. In 1993, Kravitz released his third studio album, Are You Gonna Go My Way, and it reached No. 12 on the Billboard 200 Chart. His fifth studio album, 5, which featured the single "Fly Away," earned him a Grammy award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. Kravitz went on to release four more studio albums, and is set to release his tenth album this year.

Kravitz has also made a mark in the acting field. He has appeared in the films Precious, The Hunger Games and it's sequel, and The Butler.

Helena Bonham Carter, 48

Actress Helena Bonham Carter turns 48 today. Bonham Carter made her acting debut in the television adaptation of A Pattern of Roses.She later made her film debut in Lady Jane. She has appeared in numerous films including A Room with a View, Fight Club, The King's Speech, and the Harry Potter series. She frequently collaborates with her partner, director Tim Burton, in his films including Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows. In 2012, she played Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, and Madame Thénardier in Les Misérables.

Throughout her career, Bonham Carter received two Academy Award nominations, seven Golden Globe nominations, an International Emmy Award for best actress, a BAFTA Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. On February 22, 2012, She was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to drama; she received the honor from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Bonham Carter is currently in a relationship with director Tim Burton, and have two children.
