Musician Billy Joel and actress Rosario Dawson are celebrating their birthdays today.
Billy Joel, 65
Pianist, singer-songwriter, and composer Billy Joel turns 65 today. Joel released his first hit, "Piano Man," in 1973, and it became known as his signature song. Joel has had 33 Top 40 hits throughout the '70s, '80s and '90s. He is also a six-time Grammy Award winner and has been nominated for 23 Grammy Awards. Throughout his career, Joel has sold over 150 million records worldwide.
Joel has been inducted into the Songwriters, Rock and Roll, and Long Island Music Hall of Fame. He received the Kennedy Canter Honors, and the Johnny Mercer Award.
Joel has stopped writing music after his 1993 album River of Dreams, but continues to tour and play his hits around the world.
Joel has a daughter, Alexa Ray, with his former wife Christie Brinkley.
Rosario Dawson, 35
Actress, singer and writer Rosario Dawson turns 35 today. Dawson appeared on Sesame Street when she was a young child. She made her film debut in the the controversial film Kids, which follows a group of teenagers who use drugs and are sexually active around the AIDS epidemic in the mid '90s.
Dawson went on to star in films including Rent, He Got Game, Men In Black II, Alexander, Josie and the Pussycats, Trance Grind House, Seven Pounds and Unstoppable.
In 2005, Dawson played Julia in the Public Theater's "Shakespeare in the Park" revival of Two Gentlemen of Verona' her first appearance on stage. Dawson hosted Saturday Night Live in 2009.
