After Tuesday’s night alleged dugout scuffle and ear-biting incident the Los Angeles Dodgers have suspended minor-league catcher, Miguel Olivo, pending an investigation.
According to the New York Daily News, the Dodgers suspended Olivo for his part in the incident that took place during an Albuquerque Isotopes game against the Salt Lake Bees.
Agent Scott Boras said on Wednesday that his client, infielder Alex Guerrero, had to have surgery to reattach part of his ear that Olivo allegedly bit off during the altercation.
The catcher allegedly punched Guerrero and then after having his arms restrained by others in the dugout, took a bite out of the shortstop’s ear. Another person who spoke to the team’s personnel said that part of the ear actually fell onto the dugout floor.
Several reports have stated that the incident occurred because Olivo took exception when Guerrero could not tag out a base stealer. The two then had words.
Boras called it “assault” and said that his client could not have said anything to provoke a physical fight.
Olivo signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers in January and was assigned to Triple-A.
