Wide receiver Doug Baldwin signed a two-year extension with the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday. He is now signed through the 2016 season.
This season Baldwin will play under the second-round tender that he got when he was a restricted free agent.The deal is for three years and $13 million with $9 million guaranteed. He was scheduled to make $2.2 million this season as a restricted free agent, but the new deal will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2016 season, according to ESPN, which first reported the news.
''It all comes back down to what you value. In this game, your value is determined on the amount of money that they give you, but necessarily for me, the value that I wanted to get out of it, that varied,'' Baldwin said. ''It wasn't necessarily just the money. It was the fact that I was able to stay here with an organization that I love, and teammates that I love.''
Baldwin is the Seahawks leading receiver and a valuable player.In 2011 as a rookie, he lead the team in catches(51), yards(788), and touchdowns(four). In 2012 he had to deal with injuries, but he come back in 2013. Last year he had 50 catches and five touchdowns in the regular season, according to the Associated Press. In the playoffs he came up big. He had six receptions for 106 yards in the NFC Championship game. In the Super Bowl he had five catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Baldwin isn’t the only player to sign an extension with the Seahawks. Safety Earl Thomas signed a four-year, $40 million extension in April. Two weeks later Richard Sherman signed a four-year, $56 million extension.
