Morrissey had a scary encounter with fans during his One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell tour while performing on stage in San Jose, Calif. Wednesday night.
The former Smiths frontman was performing at the City National Civic when a few fans started jumping up on the stage to give him hugs, which he graciously accepted at first. It then started to get out of hand as security detail couldn’t contain the mob that approached him. This incident unfortunately ended the concert.
Concert-goer James Fleishman got the scary encounter on video and told NBC Bay Area, "It just created a melee. He ended up hitting the floor and the lights came on within seconds. It was a very abrupt ending. I hope he's OK."
Thankfully for other concert-goers, the incident happened during Morrissey’s second encore so they did get to enjoy the show.
"No one was trying to hurt him," Fleishman said of Morrissey inviting fans up on stage throughout the show. "I don't know, they seemed drunk or out of control. It was no fault of Morrissey. Maybe he needs more security, but that's part of the Morrissey experience. People have been storming his stage for 30 years."
Daily Mail notes Morrissey performed songs from his newest album, which will mark his first in five years, during the 90-minute show.
