Batman fans rejoiced today as Fox announced its plan to order the prequel series Gotham starring Ben McKenzie to a full series in the fall 2014 lineup.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gotham stars McKenzie as future friend of the caped crusader, James Gordon, in the years before Batman. The DC Entertainment drama series will include iconic villains that made Gotham such a terrible place to live, and serve as an origin story for Bruce Wayne, played by David Mazouz.
Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly told reporters back in January "This is not one of the things where you bought a franchise and then none of characters people know. We will follow Bruce Wayne right up until the point where he gets interesting."
E! Online reports that the series green light comes as no surprise, and that the unofficial announcement came a full week before Fox officially lists its shows for the fall. Gotham’s pilot writer and director, Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) and Danny Cannon (CSI) respectively, are set to executive produce.
Gotham will also star Donal Logue, Jada Pinkett Smith, Robin Lord Taylor, and Camren Bicondova.
