Last night’s Gloria Awards and Gala was a night to remember, not only for the awards ceremony, but the 80th birthday of Gloria Steinem as well as a beautiful speech by Gabourney Sidibe that won’t soon be forgotten.
Sidibe speaks about confidence and she wonders aloud if people ask Rihanna how she is so confident like people ask her in disbelief, “Gabourney, you seem so confident. How is that?”
Once again, the actress proved why she is one of the strongest women in Hollywood, because of that confidence, because of her attitude, because she is who she is.
She spoke about a moment in elementary school when she made awful cookies for a school party and says she would never limit herself. “I started to think that maybe I wouldn’t just be the first woman black President-maybe I would also be a celebrity chef!”
The actress circled back around at the end of her speech saying that she’s confident because she’s an asshole! She hopes to never be asked about her confidence by closing out with a few powerful words, according to The Huffington Post.
“If they hadn't told me I was ugly, I never would have searched for my beauty. And if they hadn't tried to break me down, I wouldn't know that I'm unbreakable. (tearing up) So when you ask me how I'm so confident, I know what you're really asking me: how could someone like me be confident? Go ask Rihanna, asshole!”
