The first wave of HBO programming that will be available to Amazon has reached Prime Instant Video today. The deal was announced last month and includes past HBO hits, early seasons of current shows, specials and HBO movies.
As previously reported, the deal marks the first time that HBO content will be available to non-HBO subscribers without having to buy the shows on physical home video. Previously, only HBO subscribers with HBO Go could stream the network’s content.
Now, though, The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Eastbound & Down, Rome and many others will be available to Amazon Prime subscribers on Prime Instant Video.
In addition to the shows, miniseries like Band of Brothers and John Adams are available. A selection of comedy stand-up shows are also up.
This is expected to only b the beginning of HBO and Amazon’s partnership. Previous seasons of Veep, Girls, The Newsroom and other current hits will be available at a later date.
Last month, the deal was seen as a major coup for Amazon, as no other streaming service - Netflix included - has HBO shows available for subscribers. It was also the first big deal for Amazon since it officially raised the price of Amazon Prime to $99 annually.
Prime also includes free two-day shipping.
