Recently, James Franco posted a rather racy selfie on Instagram, but then quickly deleted it. It was semi-naked, and people can’t stop talking about it. Franco finally spoke out about the reasoning behind it on The Late Show With David Letterman on Thursday night.
Franco is known for having a rather strange, Instagram account, but this particular mirror selfie was pretty unexpected. For someone with more than 2 million followers, he knew it was something that would be seen.
Us Weekly explains how this selfie made tons of headlines, as it was posted on his Twitter as well, and that he even attempted, and failed, to pick up a 17-year-old fan on Instagram.
Letterman asked, “James, why? Honest to god, why?” to which Franco replied, “To me, it’s just a fun thing. It’s something I don’t put a ton of thought into. But it gets a lot of attention. I have a lot of followers on Instagram.”
Letterman decided to show the crowd, and all viewers, the almost nude selfie. In the picture, Franco is in white briefs with no shirt on covering his junk with his hands. His chest even appears rather sweaty. Once the picture was up, once again, for the world to see, Franco explained that it’s something he’s posting on his Instagram, which is for his fans. It’s not his fault so many bloggers follow him and can use the pictures however they please.
“I didn’t ask you to look at it,” he jokingly told Letterman, flashing that smile we all can’t help but love. “It’s what the people want. If you don’t want to see it, don’t follow me. Don’t follow me on Instagram!” All power to you, Franco!
