On Tuesday, the son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy plead guilty to first-degree murder charges for the stabbing death of his girlfriend.
According to CBS Boston, Jared Remy appeared in Middlesex Superior Court and plead guilty to several charges including murder, assault and violating a restraining order.
A judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The Boston Globe noted that Remy was convicted of killing 27-year-old Jennifer Martel in the couple’s home last August while their four-year-old daughter looked on.
Before he was handed the life sentence, the 35-year-old addressed the court and said to blame only him for what happened, not his family.
“My family did everything they could to help Jen,” Remy said adding that he was the “bad apple” and that “if you ask my family they’d rather have me dead than her.”
Remy’s famous father has been calling games for the Red Sox since 1988. He also serves as the first president of Red Sox Nation and was inducted into the Sox Hall of Fame in 2006.
