Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was formally charged on two misdemeanor counts of impaired driving, stemming from his March arrest.
As previously reported, Irsay was pulled over on March 16 for suspicion of drunk driving. Police discovered multiple prescription drugs inside of his car. After failing a sobriety test, he was taken to jail for a night in Hamilton County.
Irsay faced four possible felony counts of possession, but according to the Indianapolis Star, only was hit with the two misdemeanor counts on Friday.
The two charges are for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body. While both charges comes with a maximum 60-day jail sentence and $500 fine, legal experts say since the charges are Irsay's first, he won't likely see any prison time.
The 54-year-old owner's lawyers thanked the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office in a statement "for devoting the necessary care and attention to determine the facts in this matter did not warrant the filing of felony charges relative to Mr. Irsay's prescription medications."
Now that Irsay has been formally charged, the team owner now might be disciplined by the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell.
