Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel tried to uncover what gluten is and surprisingly even those who follow the gluten-free diet craze do not know.
People in LA were asked if they maintained a gluten-free diet. When they answered yes, they were asked if they knew what it was and some had trouble coming up with an answer as seen in the hilarious Pedestrian Question segment.
The Los Angeles Times noted that Kimmel said he suspected that some people don't eat gluten only because someone said they shouldn’t, which turned out to be the case with one woman that was interviewed.
Gluten is a protein composite found in foods processed from wheat.
The Business Insider reported that the market for the products grew 44% between 2011 and 2013. The number is expected to continue to rise and could reach sales of $15.6 billion in the next three years.
Kimmel did acknowledge that some people cannot eat the protein composite for medical reasons.
"A lot of people can't eat gluten for medical reasons, and that I get... But a lot of people here don't eat gluten because someone in their yoga class told them not to," he joked.
