John Oliver only recently began hosting his own show, “Last Week Tonight” on HBO, and already he’s throwing punches. Sunday night, he took a swing at skeptics of climate change.
According to The Huffington Post, Oliver began by focusing on a recent government issued statement that we may already be experiencing the effects of climate change. After a few jokes at such a statement, Oliver went on to address a recent survey suggesting that one of every four Americans does not believe in climate change. This seemed to be the breaking point for his argument against “non-believers.”
“You might as well have a poll asking: ‘Which number is bigger, 15 or 5?’ or ‘Do owls exist?’ or ‘Are there hats?’” said Oliver. “The debate on climate change ought not to be whether or not it exists, it’s what we should do about it. There is a mountain of research on this topic.”
As stated by The Washington Post, Oliver closed out his segment on climate change by bringing in the big guns. He pitted three skeptics against Bill Nye the Science Guy and an army of 96 scientists.
Ultimately, the crowd of scientists drowned out the skeptics while Oliver closed the show.
