Although Michael Sam coming out as a gay football players shows great strides and great challenges and adversity for him, many feel that his new Documentary show could be a huge distraction for him playing the game.

According to ABC News, a player on the St. Louis Rams spoke anonymously about Sam's show possibly causing problems for the team and being a huge distraction:

"It's an interesting case that he gets to work with Oprah and have his own show, but I think it does raise eyebrows and it may be somewhat of a distraction," the player told ESPN's Josina Anderson. "But this is our first time dealing with something like this, so we'll have to wait and see how it plays out and how people react."

The show will be airing on Oprah's OWN network. Although he was chosen as the 249th draft pick, his jersey was the second most popular jersey on draft weekend. Many people seem to be supporting him, but according to his teammate from the Rams, no one is quite sure how everyone on the team is really taking it:

"Clearly I'm not sure how everyone feels, but from what I can tell so far I think it's a little bit of both, honestly," he said.

The Reality show/documentary will be called "The Untitled Michael Sam Project."

According to ESPN, having a documentary like this is sending the right message to people everywhere. Outsports.com is proud of Michael Sam making strides on such a "Masculine," and "Manly," sport and him kissing his boyfriend after the draft on national television was a big step as well:

"I'm so glad [ESPN] broadcasted it," Zeigler said, who is the co-founder of Outsports.com. "I hope they broadcast it 100 times a day for the 100 days. We have been protecting kids far too long from themselves. There are kids 7 or 8 years old who realize they are gay, and they've been raised in the world that has told them for 7 or 8 years that it is either wrong or certainly not how they're supposed to be."

"The faster parents can tell their kids, the more lives those parents are going to save."

Although this is a big deal, he is yet to make the team and pushes and urges everyone to treat him as a football player and his main focus continues to train and to work hard to make the roster. If he makes the roster he could have an entire LGBT community, as well as endorsement deals backing him up.
