The debate over whether or not there will be six seasons and a movie of Community has been in contention for years. Unfortunately, it appears that this will not be the case, as NBC has decided to cancel the sitcom.

As Hitflix reports, NBC has declined to renew the program that, despite having a solid fan base, has struggled for years with ratings.

In addition to the contention the program has had with on-the-set drama between star Chevy Chase and show creator Dan Harmon, to the firing of Harmon, to Chase leaving the program himself, to Harmon returning but star Donald Glover leaving to pursue his musical career, it has been a long up-and-down roller coaster ride. As such, this news is not so much shocking as it is heartbreaking.

While the show has always coasted with the same ratings as Parks and Recreations which got renewed for a seventh season back in March, the station's full ownership of that sitcom in relation to the partial ownership they hold with Community made them more inclined to renew that program over this show.

While this is still hard for fans to hear, it is still possible that the show will be shopped to other networks, or will simply fast-track its plans to make a movie. Whichever is the future of Community, fans will know that it will not be seen on NBC.
