When NBC picked up several drama pilots on Tuesday, one was curiously missing, but that has changed. Constantine, a new series based on the supernatural DC Comics character, has been picked up to go straight-to-series.
Constantine will star Matt Ryan, from the short-lived Criminal Minds spin-off Suspect Behavior, as the title character. John Constantine is a con man who becomes a supernatural detective to save the world from evil forces. The show is set in London.
An image of Ryan in costume was released in March and shows how much the actor looks like the character, which debuted in the Hellblazer series.
This means that all three DC Comics pilots in development have been picked up. Earlier today, The CW picked up The Flash and Gotham was greenlit at Fox.
Deadline also reports that Mysteries of Laura was picked up. That project stars Debra Messing as a detective raising twins.
NBC has also picked up Katherine Heigl’s State of Affairs, Allegiance and Odyssey - all dramas. Obviously, the 2014-2015 TV season will be no laughing matter for the peacock.
