NBC announced on Friday that veteran drama series Hannibal would be returning for a third season and freshman midseason comedy About a Boy was picked up for a second.

The Hannibal Twitter was jubilant with the news and threw in a bit of dark humor the show is well-known for writing, "*tosses people confetti* Don't spoil your appetite - #Hannibal is coming back for Season 3!"

The dark drama starring Mads Mikkelson and Hugh Dancy has been somewhat on the low side in the 18-49 demographic, but has remained fairly consistent for Friday nights, with the show hovering around the 1.0 rating mark in fast returns.

The official About a Boy NBC Twitter account also revealed the news that the show would be returning for a second season noting, "We're experiencing total exuberance - #aboutaboy will be back for Season 2!"

Though the pickup for Hannibal wasn't certain due to somewhat low ratings, the midseason comedy has done well for NBC on Tuesday nights that its return was expected. Deadline reports the show is averaging a 2.4 rating in the advertiser-important demo and about 8.3 million viewers per episode.
