Netflix is reportedly in talks to develop a TV series based upon the 2001 comedy Wet Hot American Summer.
Sources spoke exclusively with Variety and said the plan would be to develop a 10-episode prequel series and that creators David Wain and Michael Showalter would like to see much of the original cast return.
That last bit would be interesting as most of the original cast are way past ever looking like they could be in high school at this point. Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni and many others starred in the film.
Wet Hot was a flop when released in theaters, earning less than $300,000, but over time developed into a cult classic, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The sources say that Wain and Showalter, who also directed the film, would write the prequel series.
If this series becomes a reality, it would be the second cult classic Netflix brought back, following on the successful return of Arrested Development.
Netflix declined to comment when both THR and Variety reached out after the news first broke.
