Following immediately after previous showrunner Drew Goddard’s departure, Marvel has found a new executive producer for its Netflix venture Daredevil in Steven S. DeKnight.
DeKnight has previous experience showrunning, as he led the Starz drama Spartacus for 3 seasons. He also has done work on Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse, and Smallville according to The Hollywood Reporter. Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Dollhouse were all conceived by Avengers director Joss Whedon, so it would seem DeKnight already has some ties at Marvel Studios.
Goddard will remain a consultant on the project according to Marvel’s official press release, but DeKnight is taking the creative reigns so that Goddard can focus his attention on Sony’s Sinister Six spinoff of The Amazing Spiderman.
Daredevil will be accompanied by three other shows based on Marvel properties—Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage—that will culminate in a team-up miniseries called The Defenders. On the network television front, Marvel already has Agents of SHIELD moving into it’s second season, as well as the new series Agent Carter (a period piece centered around Peggy Carter from Captain America).
Other then DeKnight, no other cast or crew have been added to Daredevil (or any of the other Netflix shows, for that matter). The series is set to launch in 2015.
