Paula Patton is finally speaking out about her shocking split from Robin Thicke, who was her high school sweetheart. The couple, who share a 3-year-old son, were married for nine years up until they announced plans to separate in February.
Patton spoke to Vanity Fair about the split, revealing there will always be a “deep love” between the two.
“We’ve known each other since we were teenagers. All I can tell you is there’s a deep love there—always was, and always will be,” she said. They met when she was 15 and he was 14 and she soon found herself at the receiving end of Thicke serenading her with the Jodeci’s “Forever My Lady.”
“He wasn’t my first kiss, but he was my first lots of other things,” she said.
Thicke made it clear he wanted to reconcile with his wife after their split, but in March he told People they were “much happier” this way.
When they announced their separation, they said in a joint statement, “We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”
