Widow Kristine Rodas filed a lawsuit against Porsche on Monday for errors in the Carrera GT, the model her late husband Roger Rodas crashed last year with actor Paul Walker.
According to TMZ, Kristine claims that the Carrera GT lacked a certain fuel cell and crash cage necessary to keep race cars from exploding on impact, and that Porsche failed to warn customers about the vehicular defect. She also believes problems in the suspension kept Roger, a professional driver, from regaining control of the vehicle. Kristine is suing for wrongful death, product liability, and negligence.
While not technically a racecar, the documents quotes Porsche saying the "Carrera GT is as close to a racecar as we will ever get."
SF Gate reports that official results of the accident say the vehicle was traveling at 94 mph when it crashed. However Kristine’s attorney, Mark Geragos, launched his own investigation contesting those findings, and believes Roger was only going 55 mph.
The suit claims, “The Carrera GT was unsafe for its intended use by reason of defects in its manufacture, design, testing, component and constituents, so that it would not safely serve its purpose."
Porsche Cars North America has refused to comment.
