A report surfaced on Monday that Oregon State University cut ties with men’s basketball coach and President Barack Obama’s brother-in-law, Craig Robinson.
According to Sports Illustrated, sources with knowledge of the situation have said that the university fired the head coach on Sunday.
OSU has not made any official announcement yet.
In six seasons with the Beavers, Robinson only managed a 94-105 record. He won the College Basketball Invitational in 2008-09 after an 18 win season, but did not have any NCAA or even NIT appearances. And this year, the team settled for a .500 record.
If the 53-year-old was in fact relieved of his duties, the move is not shocking given his record. However, as CBS Sports noted, removing him this long after the season has concluded is highly unusual. Also, he still had three years remaining on his contract, meaning the school would have to pay him $4 million, unless a buyout can be reached.
Robinson is the older brother of First Lady Michelle Obama and introduced her at the 2008 Democratic National convention.
