Robert Pattinson has made it pretty clear throughout his career that he isn’t comfortable with the spotlight. However, with a booming career after The Twilight Saga, he’s been forced to cope with all that comes with fame.
At the Cannes Film Festival promoting his new film The Rover, Pattinson talked about being one of the most recognized people in the world.
"It's strange. I have a disassociation now. It's odd to live that same life,” said Pattinson, who is the face of Dior’s men’s fragrance Homme. "But I have always had that disassociation. I've never understood the crowds screaming. This is a job.”
USA Today reports Pattinson also said about his heartthrob status, "I am trying to eliminate any bit of vanity, I want to avoid any opportunity to pose (for the camera). Or whatever. Because if you get that opportunity to pose, you will probably take it."
These comments coincide with his decision to take on grittier roles following his success with Twilight. In The Rover, Pattinson joins a soldier (Guy Pearce) in trying to get his stolen car back after an apocalypse. He also appeared in David Cronenberg's A Map to the Stars and Cosmopolis, which are far departures from the teen vampire he first played.
