Former Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader has signed a development deal with HBO to create a new comedy series. Hader has also agreed to star in the project.
HBO confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter and TheWrap. No details were released on the project, including a title or when it might reach television.
Hader appeared on SNL for eight seasons and also wrote for the long-running sketch comedy show on NBC. He earned two Emmy nominations during his tenure, which ended last year. He did make an appearance in last weekend’s season finale with fellow alum Andy Samberg. During his tenure, he was best known for his impressions, as well as his Stefon character on “Weekend Update.”
Since leaving SNL, Hader has kept busy as a recurring actor on Fox’s The Mindy Project and voicing characters on Bob’s Burgers and seth Meyers’ Hulu series The Awesomes.
On the features side, Hader will be seen in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and The Skeleton Twins. He also has a part in Judd Apatow’s next film, Trainwreck.
