After the controversial exit of director Edgar Wright on 2015's Ant-Man, it appears that Marvel is taking another blow to the stomach, as reports are circulating that Drew Goddard, the writer, producer, and showrunner for their upcoming Netflix series of Daredevil, has also left his project with the studio.
According to a report circulating from Latino Review, Goddard has decided to leave his commitment to the show, which he has been attached to since last year.
Since Latino Review made its initial report, The Hollywood Reporter went on to confirm the news, as well as to state that Steven S. DeKnight, a showrunner on Spartacus and a former writer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has taken over Goddard's responsibilities. Goddard will remain a "consultant" on the show, but it is unclear whether or not his scripts will be used in any way, shape or form during the show's production.
Considering that Goddard was also signed on to write and direct The Sinister Six for Sony, which was heavily hinted in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it would not be hard to believe that Goddard would have his hands filled trying to balance both projects.
Unlike yesterday's news involving Wright, this appears to be just a case of biting more than one can chew. With the lost of not one, but two rising talents, questions have obviously been raised as far as what is going on in Marvel studios behind-the-scenes.
Although, there are rumors being spread today potentially answering why Wright left Ant-Man, as Latino Review also reports that Marvel has supposedly hired two "low-credit screenwriters" behind Wright and co-writer Joe Cornish's backs that "homogenized" the film with the others in the Marvel universe. This in turn, however, made the movie into something that Wright didn't not envision for the film and, therefore, did not want to make.
There is no way of knowing for sure if this true, but it is at least a little odd that Marvel would lose two of its talents in just a matter of days.
