Sam and Dean take a visit to Castiel’s Angel Headquarters to help interrogate a prisoner from Metatron’s circle. The prisoner, Ezra, had been caught at a bar bragging about being picked by Metatron himself. Dean can’t wait to begin some angel torture but Sam stops him and instead they trick the angel into spilling the beans. They end up finding out that there is a portal to heaven on earth but it moves around from place to place. Unfortunately, the angel doesn’t know anything else because he isn’t as close to Metatron as he likes to make it appear.
But then Ezra is found dead, which leads Cas to believe there is someone that works for Metatron in his circle. Cas asks Sam about Gadreel and how it felt when he was possessed by the angel. Sam says he felt like the angel had unfinished business and he never felt threatened by his presence.
Meanwhile, Abaddon travels back to Scotland in 1723 to snatch up Crowley’s son Gavin. She interrupts one of Crowley’s strategy meetings to bargain with Crowley to stop the Winchester’s from trying to kill her with the First Blade. She wants to join forces with Crowley to kill the Winchester’s and then the two of them can go back to trying to kill each other. Crowley is not falling for it, and refuses her offer but then she brings out Gavin and begins to torture him in front of Crowley. Crowley plays it off like he originally didn’t care about his son, but tells Abaddon to stop and agrees to help her with the Winchesters.
Gavin and Crowley aren’t really on the best of terms because of Crowley’s failures at fatherhood, but they eventually come to terms with each other, especially when Gavin finds out he’s now a Prince. Well a Prince of Hell, but Gavin’s just happy he won’t burn in hell for his sins. Though he doesn’t want to stay in 2014, he wants to go back to his time and get on the ship to America, but Crowley won’t let him because the ship sinks on the way there.
Castiel meets with Gadreel to try to convince him that he’s on the wrong side of the fight and that he’s making the same mistake. However, during their meeting their ambushed by angels, whom Cas deals with, but Gadreel disappears. When they meet up again, Gadreel says he had nothing to do with the angels which leads Cas to offer Gadreel a job. Become a spy for his team, and report information on Matatron back to him. Will Gadreel accept the offer?
Sticking to his deal with Abaddon, Crowley calls the Winchesters and sends them to retrieve the First Blade. They retrieve the Blade from a corpse and then call Crowley to find out where to meet. While on the phone Crowley says the code word Poughkeepsie, warning Dean that something’s up. When they arrive, Dean sounds Sam to the basement to keep him safe from what’s about to happen.
During battle, Abaddon uses the age old trick of pinning Dean to a wall, but thanks to the Mark of Cain, it’s not very effective. Even every time she knocks the blade form his hand it flies back to him. Dean stabs her with the Blade and then continues to beat her until Sam walks in and stops him.
Later on in the Impala, Sam asks Dean about what happened back there. He’s mad because they’re partners and he should have been fighting alongside him. Dean was afraid Abaddon would use Den as a bargaining chip and that he couldn’t afford to screw anything up. Sam is starting to fear for Dean and what the Blade is doing to him. He suggests they lock the Blade up somewhere safe, but Dean refuses.
