TBS has officially greenlighted Angie Tribeca, a police spoof series written and created by Steve Carell and his wife, Nancy. The sitcom will star Rashida Jones as the title character.
The project has been at TBS since November 2013. Angie is the veteran of the Really Heinous Crimes Unit at the Los Angeles Police Department. They are a group of detectives who will stop at nothing to solve crimes, but unfortunately let their private lives impede get them in trouble. Jones, who left NBC’s Parks and Recreation this past season, joined the pilot in January.
Now, TBS has put in a 10-episode order for the project. “We're proud to be working with the outstanding comedy talents behind Angie Tribeca, especially Nancy and Steve Carell and the incredibly talented Rashida Jones,” Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TBS, TNT and TCM, said in a statement.
Jones’ co-stars include Jere Burns, Deon Cole and Andree Vermeulen. Lisa Kudrow, Gary Cole, Alfred Molina, Nancy Carell, Hayes Macarthur and Matthew Glave all make guest appearances in the first few episodes.
TBS is steadily building its roster of original comedies to air around The Big Bang Theory and Family Guy repeats. Original shows airing on TBS already include Sullivan & Sons, Cougar Town and Men at Work. Seth MacFarlane’s American Dad! will also be moving to TBS in the fall.
