The CW is still keeping its mind open when it comes to creating a spin off of one of its more popular dramas, Supernatural. The network tried to launch one at the end of the current season, but it ultimately passed on it.
Supernatural’s spinoff was originally known as Tribes, but the network changed the name to Bloodlines. Last week, the network ultimately lost interest in that pilot and decided not to go forward.
Still, The CW was leaving the door open and CW President Mark Pedowitz confirmed that in a meeting with reporters before the upfront presentation later today. “We believe that there's a real brand in Supernatural,” Pedowitz said, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Pedowtiz said that he was condifent in the six pilots they did pick up and that Bloodlines just didn’t fit in their plans. “I've already spoken to the creator and the studio. They know that we want to develop once more next season, a Supernatural spinoff. What it is and what it isn't yet is still in the air,” he added.
Supernatural has had an amazing run, starting in 2005, even before Time Warner and CBS Corp. merged the WB and UPN, notes Variety. So it is interesting that they are just now looking to create a spin-off. The show will hopefully get another boost in the fall, since The Flash will be its lead-in on Tuesday nights.
