The View co-host, Sherri Shepherd’s estranged husband Lamar Sally is speaking out after news has surfaced of their split after only three years of marriage. The former couple are currently expecting a child via surrogate, who will be born July 28.

In court documents obtained by E! News, Sally asked for primary legal and physical custody of their unborn child, a son who will be named Lamar Sally Jr. in the paperwork filed on May 2.

He told People he’s “happy to be a father." He did note, he’s lost "freakin' 50 pounds" since going through their break-up.

"Use a slim picture. Not the fatone from six months ago … I'm on the divorce diet,” he joked.

For her part, Shepherd has stayed quiet about the couple’s separation and soon-to-be baby. She’s already a mom to 9-year-old Jeffrey from a previous marriage. The television personality reportedly hid her marriage troubles from those close to her, with one source saying "It seemed like they had a happy, supportive relationship.”

TMZ reports she filed for divorce a day after he filed for legal separation. She didn't mention custody of their unborn child in the documents.
