Tina Fey has a theory about why she thinks Ellen DeGeneres will be the first female talk show host to break through to late night – and it has to do with her wardrobe.
Fey stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers on Wednesday and talked about why fashion has everything to do with how women are going to soon join in with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and soon Stephen Colbert.
“A lot of times these hosts get their jobs when they're like 35 or 40, and they keep them until they're 65. So I was like, if you're a lady, what do you wear?” she told Meyers, E! Online reports.
But unlike other potential female hosts, DeGeneres, although she’s currently a daytime talk show host, already wears what most women start wearing when they get a little older.
"If you go in like with a cocktail dress, and then you're 45, you're 50...and there's going to come a day when you go, 'I don't got it! Bring me the jacket!'" she said, adding, "That is why I think Ellen [DeGeneres] is going to be the first person to break through, because she's already wearing jackets!"
