The nominees for the Television Critics Association’s 2014 TCA Awards was announced on Tuesday, with True Detective and Louie among the most honored shows from the past season. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the awards.
All four broadcast networks - ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox - earned multiple nominations, as did PBS and nine bacl networks. Netflix also earned nominations thanks to Orange is the New Black and House of Cards.
The TCA Awards also plan on honoring a long-running or influential show with the Heritage Award. The nominees for that award are David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, J.J.Abrams’ Lost, NBC’s Saturday Night Live, Comedy Central’s South Park and Star Trek.
Reality TV mogul Mark Burnett is up for the Career Achievement Award, as are producer James Burrows (Taxi, Cheers); Jay Leno; William Shatner (Star Trek); and Valerie Harper (Rhoda, Mary Tyler Moore Show).
Breaking Bad will get a chance to defend its Program of the Year titled against Game of Thrones, The Good Wife, Orange is the New Black and True Detective. Many of these shows are also up for Outstanding Achievement in Drama, although House of Cards was replaced by Orange is the New Black and The Americans took True Detective’s slot.
The Big Bang Theory is up for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy against Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Louie, The Mindy Project and Veep. Last year, Big Bang shared the prize with Parks & Recreation, which was not nominated for 2014.
True Detective’s other nominations came in the Individual Achievement in Drama (Matthew McConaughey), Outstanding Achievement in Drama and Outstanding New Program categories.
Louie star Louie C.K. was also nominated for Individual Achievement in Comedy, which he won last year.
The TCA Awards are set for July 19 at the Beverly Hilton.
